At Michigan State, I started taking composition lessons to fulfill the creative music requirement for my education degree. Taking lessons the first semester was a lot of fun and musically fulfilling so I decided to take three more semesters of composition. The first year I studied with Roger Petersen and the second with William Withem, both of whom were doctoral candidates in the composition program. While working on my master’s degree in music education at Anderson University, SC, I took composition lessons with Dr. Stan Pethel.

Some of my compositions include:

  • Beside Still Waters – Piano
  • Out of the Depths – SATB choir
  • My Dove, Arise! – SATB choir and piano
  • Brass Blitz – Brass Quintet
  • Truths of Jefferson – Tenor and Piano
